DoHuya is a database and analytics site for the four major Chinese live-streaming
platforms — DouYu, Huya, Bilibili, and CC163. Unlike Western platforms (Twitch,
YouTube, Kick), Chinese services do not expose concurrent viewer counts. Instead
they use a proprietary Heat Index — a composite popularity signal that blends
broadcast duration, channel traffic, virtual gifting, and other engagement
factors. DoHuya surfaces this data as three ranking tools (channels, games, live
streams) plus a news section explaining trends and methodology.

## Methodology: the Heat Index

- Chinese live-streaming platforms do not display concurrent viewer counts the way Twitch or YouTube do.
- They instead use a proprietary Heat Index (also called "heat" or "popularity index"), a composite of broadcast duration, channel traffic, virtual gifting, and other engagement factors.
- DoHuya reports two forms: Average Heat Index (AHI) over a period and Peak Heat Index (PHI), the highest point reached.
- This lets rankings surface rising and niche streamers in China's monolingual market, where raw viewer count alone does not equate to visibility.
